As I am sitting here at the Health Science Library, there are many middle school aged children walking by… I guess they are on a tour
Remember back in elementary or middle school, the teachers would have you think about what you would like to be in the future. So I redid this exercise…
In 5 Years…
I see myself in medical school studying. Hair tied up, in sweats, with bags underneath my eyes, chewing on a biscotti, with eyes wide open as if having them open will absorb more information, textbook in my hand, looking out the window to rest my eyes only to realize that a new day is beginning, and smiling to reminisce that this is the moment I have yearned for 5 years ago… this defines the beauty a student can attribute.
In 10 Years…
I see myself in a university hospital. White gown with my legal name sewn in by my mom, stethoscope around my neck, digging through the four large pockets full of papers to find a pen, interacting with patients (hopefully children) and caring for their needs and what will make them feel better, still researching to reduce injuries, attending conferences both across the hallway and across the nation, and hopefully writing grants… seeing people like this at work inspires me to mirror my future with how they are right now.
I want to do this with a smile on my face, every day
In both 5 and 10 years, I will be coming back to this post and cross it off as I will have achieved all this by then.
